چکیده

requiring catheter-based hemodialysis has increased in recent decades. Catheter-based hemodialysis is commonly used during the time it takes for arteriovenous fistula maturation. Conventional venous access sites such as the subclavian vein (SCV) and internal jugular vein (IJV) had been used for catheter placement. However, the SCV should be preserved from catheterization, with consideration of the risk of venous stenosis or thrombosis as complications after a procedure in a patient where fistula or graft creation is planned. The rate of complications for an SCV approach is higher than for an IJV approach. The IJV has become the preferred priJ Korean Soc Radiol 2010;63:351-357

A Retrospective Study of Preferable Alternative Route to Right Internal Jugular Vein for Placing Tunneled Dialysis Catheters: Right External Jugular Vein versus Left Internal Jugular Vein

BACKGROUND Right internal jugular vein (IJV) is a preferred access route for tunneled (cuffed) dialysis catheters (TDCs), and both right external jugular vein (EJV) and left IJV are alternative routes for patients in case the right IJV isn't available for TDC placement. This retrospective study aimed to determine if a disparity exists between the two alternative routes in hemodialysis patients ...

The initial placement of a catheter into the right jugular vein was not successful as it was not possible to establish adequate blood flow. The second catheter introduced into the right subclavian vein failed too. Therefore, there was a need to place a catheter in the left jugular vein. However, chest radiography s...
